LET'S GO PIONEERS!

The Pioneers will play Wayne County rival Tolsia at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Wheeling Island Stadium for the Class AA state championship. It's Wayne's third trip to the Super Six state high school football championships in six seasons. Tolsia, who advanced with a 7-6 victory against James Monroe (12-1) on Friday, beat Wayne, 30-19, on Oct. 13.

"It's not what people on the outside think of you," said Wayne coach Tom Harmon of his young team. "There was a lot of luck involved, but our expectation level has not changed year in and year out.

"Both teams are rightfully there and earned the right to play for a state championship. There will be a state championship in Wayne County in AA for sure. Only, nobody knows who it will be, yet."

Wayne has a six-game winning streak with its last loss to Tolsia in which the Rebels' B.J. Evans rushed for a school-record 360 yards. But since that defeat the Pioneers had only allowed an average of seven points per game.
